Health financing and planning are critical to advancing towards Universal Health Coverage, ensuring that resources are mobilized, allocated and utilized efficiently to meet the health needs of the population. Strategic financing promotes transparency and accountability in resource allocation and its use, while systematic planning enables focussed investments towards in preventive, promotive and curative services, strengthening health systems and enhancing service delivery.
At HSTP, we are committed to advance equitable access to healthcare through evidence-based planning and financing approaches in our intervention states. We develop investment cases to increase government healthcare spending, driven by efficient planning and financial management. Through detailed health budget analyses, we help identify priority intervention areas, reduce regional disparities, support the implementation of performance-based financing and develop costed long-term planning for delivering specialized services.
Equitable access to quality healthcare without financial hardship is key to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), especially in low- and middle-income countries in the WHO Southeast Asia Region (SEAR). Despite health insurance programmes, high out-of-pocket expenditures remain a barrier. This study evaluates health insurance coverage in SEAR, analysing socioeconomic and demographic factors.
HSTP published a research article in the BMC Public Health examining the “twin epidemics” of hypertension and diabetes across India. The findings are concerning yet informative: 1 in 4 Hypertensive Indians aged 30+ also lives with Diabetes; 43% of Diabetics in India also battle Hypertension.
